REGIONAL

As an educational organisation, the École Supérieure d’Art puts heavy emphasis on its work at a regional and international level.

In 1999 it formed the Inter-School Network with the École de l’Image d’Épinal (Epinal School for Engraving). Student and teacher exchanges have since helped encourage complementary educational practices. Increased contact with the École Nationale Supérieure d’Art de Nancy led to a partnership between the three major Eastern France art schools - Metz, Epinal and Nancy - and a joint communications strategy (joint presentations at professional salons for example). ESAM is also part of Metz Campus, an association of all higher education bodies in Metz together with AGEM, an association formed by Metz’s elite university colleges.
Members of these associations work together in promoting higher education in Moselle County and improving student life in the area.

 EUROPE.ERASMUS

The development of a network of international exchanges is one of the School’s major priorities, and a necessity given that the School is part of Europe’s higher education system. Agreements have been signed with the Hochschule für Bildenden Kunste Saar de Sarrebruck, and

bilateral Erasmus agreements with Trier Fachhochschule and the Karlsruhe Hochschule für Gestaltung in Germany, the Academy of Fine Arts et la Film&TV School Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague in the Czech Republic, L’Escuola Superior Artistica de Porto in Portugal, la West University of Timisoara en Roumanie, the Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi in Copenhague and with the Academy of Fine Arts d’Helsinki in Finlande. Contacts are in hand with British and Italian universities to set up further partnerships. The Erasmus Agency has granted the School an Erasmus - Socrates Charter, acknowledgement of its educational level and the academic quality of its exchange program, with the resulting entitlement to European finance encouraging the mobility of students and teachers.

The School is also interested in contacts and cultural developments outside Europe. An example is the students’ participation in Fesmamas, the Marionette Festival held in Markala in Mali with its exchange of know-how, digital skills, and dispositifs scéniques also examining the integration of new media.

Member of ELIA (European League of Institutes of Art) and Art Accord, ESAM works with major international bodies in developing an international exchange policy and applying the 1999 Bologna Agreement on the reform of higher education in Europe.

 STUDY TRIPS

Short study trips to London, Berlin, Barcelona, Venice, Prague… are organised regularly as part of the School’s academic programs as a supplement to its theoretical and practical courses in the plastic arts.

Londres, Berlin, Barcelone, Venise, Prague…

Some 40 students, under the supervision of members of the teaching staff, explore a specific culture and examine the many trends in contemporary art in a lively approach to the history of art in visits centred on the major museums and monuments in each city.

These visits are prepared and booked beforehand and include specific projects required of students. They also visit major exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, Lyons, Basel, Luxembourg… on one or two day visits.
